Got an Eland, Elephants Almost Got Us!

    Thursday, August 28, 2008, 02:56 PM [General]

Got my Livingstone eland today! We went out looking for elephant, and way ahead of us through the forest we saw these eland. We made about a mile stalk on them and came up 75 yards from them through the trees. I made the shot, a little far forward, so the eland ran a little farther than I wanted. But a beautiful eland, 36 1/2 inches long.

Ronnie and I are getting along good now. He showed me as scar on his back that goes like 12 inches up his back. Four years ago when he was 63 years old, he climbed up on a tree limb looking for elephants. The branch broke, and he wiped out, broke his back. He spent a ton of time in the hospital, thought he wouldn't walk, but they repaired it with metal plates.

His hero was J.A. Hunter who is the exact same guy who turned me in to a hunter. J.A. Hunter wrote the book called "Hunter." He was a professional hunter in Kenya. When I did an interview for Michael Waddell's show, Michael asked me what brings me over to places like this. I said J. A. Hunter, and Ronnie was listening and got all excited and said the same guy was his inspiration as well.

There's a new guy in camp from Houston, Bud, is his name. He will be hunting elephants, and he's originally from Saskatchewan just like I am. Real good guy.

    TWO DAYS LATER ...

Elephant stampede today. Didn't see hardly anything, just a few cows and calves from 8 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon. Then we hit some fresh tracks, went in and tracked five big elephant bulls. One was for sure a shooter. For an hour we were working in just trying to get within 30 yards. We had em and looked like we were going to get him. The wind died off and the sun was just about to set, and all of a sudden a little puff circled around and for some reason all five of these big bull elephants came right at us. Unfortunately we didn't get it on camera because we turned to run and then realized there was no time. So we stopped, and then Ronnie started yelling, and they parted like the Seas of Galilee and went around us on each side of us about 15 yards away.

It was really exciting; "intense," as Todd the cameraman said. Also today we saw three dead elephants that have just died from pure overpopulation here. There are too many elephants. The people have protected them here which is great, but now there are 180,000 elephants living in Botswana in 10 percent of the area of the country. Probably carrying capacity is 30,000 to 40,000, so they're dying. There's going to be a crash here, there is no question; that's nature boom and bust. When it happens it's going to be just a terrible travesty. They need to be controlled. You know, conservation is different than preservation. You preserve, preserve, preserve, and all the best intentions go bad because ... I guess they're killing them with kindness. They're going to wipe out the whole herd if a bad case of anthrax comes through here which there is a lot of in this area. They lost a pile of animals in the local park here a few years ago to anthrax, and if that happens with these animals it's going to be trouble. Anyway it was very sad to see these dead elephants. They just died; couldn't survive because of the habitat loss. Anyway that's my tirade for today. Hunting is the cure. "Hunting is the cure," that's my new saying.

    "Home Sweet Home"

Thursday, August 28, 2008, 12:56 PM PST [General]

After 2 days of testing up at Cedars Sanai for my mom to get evaluated to get on the liver donor list I am home. It was real nice to spend the time with my mom especially at night inour Hotel where we just talked and laughed. After all the testing we found out she is a 9 on the "MELD" scale so she will be good for a couple years until she needs a new liver unless she has some complications. We are all so happy. I can't wait to see my honey when he get's home from work seems like forever even th ough it has only been two days. I got a million things to do since I just got home so I will write more tomorrow on the last day.

    Monza Test - Day two

    Friday, August 29, 2008, 02:56 AM [Testing]

28 August 2008 - Just four days after the conclusion of the European Grand Prix, Adrian Sutil was back in action for the Force India Formula One Team, taking over the wheel for the second day of testing at Monza.

With the sunny, warm conditions prevailing, Adrian's duties followed on from Tonio Liuzzi's programme yesterday as the German pushed on with evaluating set-ups and wing levels, and re-familiarising himself with the demands of the high-speed, low downforce track. The structured programme also included work to optimise the set-up over the high-level kerbs and brake testing.

Again the VJM01 ran without major problems, allowing Adrian to complete 92 laps in total and record the 7th fastest time of the 12-man field. Giancarlo Fisichella will complete the testing programme tomorrow.

    Team quotes
Dominic Harlow, chief race and test engineer

'Today's programme very much followed on from yesterday's schedule, with Adrian evaluating set-up options and wing levels for the Italian Grand Prix. We also tested some development items on the rear suspension, brakes and set-ups for the kerbs, which are quite violent particularly at the Roggia chicane. We completed a lot of laps today, the equivalent running of a race weekend Saturday and Sunday, which will be good preparation for the Italian Grand Prix.'

    Adrian Sutil
'Today was quite a good day. I felt comfortable in the car and we could do a lot of laps and found some items that will help us move forward and prepare for the race here. We had some work to do to find a good set-up that works over the kerbs and in the slow corners without losing time on braking or on the straights, and also trying to get a good setup with the inertia dampers. We made some good steps forward that will also help us at next week's Belgian Grand Prix, so I am happy and feel quite prepared for these coming races.'

    Testing data
    Driver:   Adrian Sutil
Track:   Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, Italy
    Best lap time:  1min 23.823
    Laps completed:  92
    Kilometres completed 533km
    Air temperature:  High of 31ºC
    Track temperature:  High of 42ºC
    Weather:   Sunny and warm

    Xena Charity Listings on eBay

    Thursday, August 28, 2008, 02:56 PM [General]

Not very faerie-related, but another of my projects is a fanzine that I run about Xena Warrior Princess memorabilia. I know there are a few Xenites on here so thought I would mention it!

The fanzines come on CD-ROM, each are around 40-50 pages in PDF format, and each issue covers a different area of merchandise - dolls, trading cards, jewellery etc.

80% of the set selling price goes to charity, the rest covers costs. Three issues are in support of Redwings Horse Sanctuary, four issues are in support of the RSPB, and the Year One set is in support of Friends of the Earth. Individual issues are £4 and the set of 6 is £23 (saving £1).

My eBay seller ID is thebattlingbard. Thanks for looking!

Daddy Obama Second Only To Jonas Brothers

Thursday, August 28, 2008, 12:54 PM PST [General]

Daddy Obama Second Only To Jonas Brothers

Two nights ago, we saw Senator Barack Obama surprise his daughters via satellite at the DNC. Malia and Sasha did a great job hiding their disappointment! The girls acted thrilled and lovingly towards dear old Dad while in the spotlight, but there may have been a little pouting backstage. Apparently, when Michelle told them to expect a surprise, they thought it may be the subject of the posters plastered on their bedroom walls, The Jonas Brothers. The following afternoon, Michelle told supporters: "In the end she felt that Daddy was a decent second choice."

The WWE Should Make A Documentary Style Film.

Thursday, August 28, 2008, 08:54 PM GMT [General]

I think the WWE should make a fly on the wall documantary style film following the lives of three superstars. It would follow them from city to city showing the extra effort that these superstars have to make to do this job. It would be good to see them talking about upcoming matches and how the match is gonna play out and see them after the matches. It could start the week after Wrestlemania and end at the next Wrestlemania. I think it would be interesting to see what actually happens backstage and in the locker room. I know there was that Beyond The Mat but I would like to see the WWE make something quite similar. Do you think a film like this would be a step to far?

que opinas de los hombres que golpean a las mujeres?

Thursday, August 28, 2008, 03:51 PM EST [General]
